Memorial Service in Sheldon Wisconsin
It was Lloyd and Marian's wish to be buried in the Pickering Family plot in Sheldon, so we gathered together as much of the family as we could on the weekend of September 16, 2011. This first set of photos shows us both before and after the service. Most of us stayed with Phil and Dave Sanford at their cabins on Lake Holcombe, where we also celebrated Aunt Florence's 80th birthday with a huge cake. It was wonderful to see the lumberyard, the old mill location and the homes where Lloyd and Marian spent their youth. And we enjoyed beautiful weather while we were there, it only started raining Sunday, as the visitors started to leave.
Service at the Cemetery
Pastor Jeremy Allard officiated at the graveside service on a beautiful Saturday morning. Paul gave the eulogy for Lloyd and Cathy recited a poem in honor of Marian. Jan, Becky and Cathy sang a hymn that they had practiced late into the night before. Dave Pickering also spoke briefly about his folks and Pastor Allard then recited a poem Rachel brought to share. We closed with "How great thou Art" and spent some time catching up and sharing memories before heading to the reception at the Church of Christ Social Hall in Sheldon.
Memorial Service Reception
During the reception, we played a DVD showing pictures of Lloyd and Marian and their family through the years. We also provided a template for everyone to write down their connection to Lloyd and Marian, which we used to create the family tree that is on the next page.
